In January 2018, after 9 months of hard work, the library officially publicized the report of “Towards 2020 --- Three-Year Strategic Plan for the Library of Southern University of Science and Technology”.

In March 2017, the library invited two American experts, Dr. Camila Alire, Dean Emeritus at Colorado State University and New Mexico University, and Mr. Haipeng Li, University Librarian at the University of California at Merced, to help the library with its development of a three-year strategic plan.

A student survey was conducted in April 2017 and the library received over 1,672 (more than 60% of all SUSTech students) responses, finding out the students’ purposes, the frequency and the kinds of activities when they use the library, as well as their suggestions to and expectations of the library.

In May 2017, to seek opinions by the SUSTech community on library services, with the assistance of the two experts, focus group sessions were held. Participants in these sessions included graduate students, faculties, library management team and staff. Interviews with the university leadership were also conducted.

In the following months until end of November 2017, based on the guidance of the two experts and the results of the extensive surveys, the report of “Towards 2020 -- Three-Year Strategic Plan for the Library of Southern University of Science and Technology” (see attachment) with specific goals and objectives was completed, laying out clearly directions for the development of the SUSTech Library in three years.
