Warning on Violations of Electronic Resource Access via CARSI Accounts

Release time:2026-03-2411

March 24, 2026

Dear Patrons,

Recently, several instances of systematic and excessive downloading of electronic resources via CARSI accounts have been detected at our university. Some of these violations have triggered security alerts from database vendors, leading to the temporary suspension of off-campus access for the entire university, which has seriously disrupted the academic research and teaching activities of our faculty and students.

Such actions directly violate the license agreements between the University and database providers, as well as the SUSTech Regulations on the Use of Electronic Resources. These misconducts carry serious risks: they can cause campus-wide IP suspensions, trigger legal claims from vendors, or even lead to the permanent termination of our institutional access to these databases.

In response to these violations, the Library, in coordination with the IT Service Center, has suspended the off-campus database access of the CARSI accounts involved and has taken action in accordance with relevant regulations.

To protect the collective interests of all faculty and students and ensure stable access to resources, we hereby reiterate the following:

1. Account Accountability: CARSI accounts are integrated with the University’s CAS (Central Authentication Service). Each patron is the primary person responsible for the security of their own credentials. Please do not share your password, avoid staying logged in on public devices, and change your password immediately if you suspect any unusual activity.

2. Proper Usage: In accordance with the SUSTech Regulations on the Use of Electronic Resources, patrons must avoid automated or systematic downloading. Resources should be acquired reasonably and solely for personal academic purposes. View policy details: https://lib.sustech.edu.cn/dzzysygd/list.htm.

We appreciate your cooperation in protecting our faculty and students' access to electronic resources.
